AKIPRESS.COM - Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Altynai Omurbekova said that air pollution has become a real problem of the country, in particular in Bishkek at the seminar "On the way to sustainable and vital development of cities in Kyrgyz Republic", the government's press service said.
Kyrgyzstan is vulnerable to natural and manmade impacts, which means more attention should be paid to providing ecological security in the country, according to her.
"Transition to the sustainable development implies economic growth in terms of human values and a rational use of natural resourses. Air pollution is a global problem and one of the main factors of risks for the health. Over the past years, air pollution became a real problem in our country, especially in Bishkek, and attracted everyone's attention," Omurbekova said.
Speaking about the children's diseases, Omurbekova said that the respiratory diseases and bronchial asthma among children increased twice compared to 2013. This might be due to the air pollution, she noted.
The Vice Prime Minister reminded that the President of Kyrgyzstan in November 11 signed the law on ratification of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
