AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov at the consultative meeting of Presidents of Central Asian countries in Tashkent told about the negative affects of glacier retreat in Kyrgyzstan on November 29, his press service reported.
"A sharp reduction of glaciers in Kyrgyzstan will have social, economic and environmental impacts for the whole region. Immediate international cooperation is needed on preserving glaciers, improving the mechanism of water and energy resourses," the head of state said.
The climate change in the world is having more affects every year, he said.
The President said that scientists are recording a significant level of glacier shrinking in Kyrgyzstan.
"45% of water resourses of the region are formed in our mountains. So, we will face a real problem of decreasing of water level in the rivers soon. As a result, this will certainly affect the ecology of Central Asia, negatively influence the economic activities and large potential hydropower plants," Jeenbekov added.
