'Tramway won't return to Almaty, it's impossible' — mayor Sagintayev

AKIPRESS.COM - Tramways in Almaty were completely eliminated in Almaty and they will not return, mayor of the city Bakytzhan Sagintayev said last week, Vlast.kz reported.
According to him, a new creative place for youth will appear on the place of old tramway station, he said.
"Tramways were eliminated. It's impossible to resume them. Because a lot of money are needed. The tramlines were dismantled, asphalted and replaced," Sagintayev noted.
In late October, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that the tramways should have been kept. Only update and repair were needed, he noted. The President said elimination of tramways was a disputable decision.
