AKIPRESS.COM - Those who shamed the nude performance at the museum citing Kyrgyz traditions remind mankurt (unthinking slave) from Chingiz Aitmatov's book, said lawmaker Chynybai Tursunbekov.
Tursunbekov reminded of the ancient Kyrgyz tradition called Too Chechuu, in which a naked woman must free the tethered camel. If she does that, she wins a prize.
"The Kyrgyz must know their past. We had this tradition since time immemorial, and denying that means not knowing the past of the Kyrgyz people. Now they are saying that women in Kyrgyzstan were never naked. It shows how they are ignorant about the Kyrgyz traditions," he said.
The game Too Chechuu is an ancient game that appeared before the October Revolution, and it was among the national games such as Kok-Boru, At-Chabysh, Kurosh, etc. "And it is wrong to say that the Kyrgyz did not have such a thing," he said.
Scandal around nude performance of woman at the museum as part of the 1st Feminnale of Contemporary Art international exhibition led to firing of the museum director.
