AKIPRESS.COM - On December 3-6, the 17th meeting of the Mongolia-Vietnam intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation took place in Hanoi, Vietnam, Montsame reported.
Co-chaired by Ch.Ulaan, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia, and Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the meeting discussed bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, road transport, science, technology, education, culture, sports, tourism, labor, health care, and disaster prevention, and released a joint protocol.
At the meeting that coincided with the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the sides agreed to take concrete measures to increase trade volume between the two countries to USD 100 million as a first step to elevate bilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation based on the solid foundation of their political relations. In particular, it was agreed to swap working groups in charge of imposing veterinary and quarantine requirements for export products of the two countries, specifically, deep frozen mutton and goat meat and seafood, in the first quarter of 2020.
Commending the advances seen in bilateral cooperation in road transport and logistics over the recent years, the sides talked about carrying on with discussions on the launch of a direct flight, expansion of railway and sea transport networks, and use of terminals at Vietnam's ports.
The Mongolian side noted that it can export coking coal and other mining products in order to increase trade.
The sides also agreed to strengthen ties between businesspeople of the two countries and the Mongolian side welcomed Vietnamese investors to consider Mongolia's economic sectors, especially agriculture and light industry, informing of the 'Darkhan Leather Complex' project.
Views were exchanged in depth on holding a meeting of Directors of Departments of Asia of the countries' Foreign Ministries, advancing bilateral relations to the next level, as well as the high-level visits and events planned for the near future.
During the intergovernmental commission meeting, another meeting was held between veterinary authorities of the two countries to talk about their veterinary control systems and increasing the sales of animal based products and raw materials.
Lastly, a preliminary agreement was reached to raise the scholarships of Mongolian and Vietnamese students studying at universities of each other's countries.
