Kazakhstan ratifies protocol on Emissions Register to Convention on Access to Information

AKIPRESS.COM - The Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on ratification of the protocol on Emissions Register and transfer of pollutants to the Convention on Access of Information, participation of society in the decision-making processes and access to justice on environmental issues, Akorda reports.
The document implies providing of fair information on emmissions to citizents and will allow participation of society in the decision-making processes on environmental issues. The access to information will be expanded by creation of national Pollutant Release and Transfer Registry.
Minister of Ecology Magzum Mirzagaliyev said that this registry provides a comprehensive information on potentially dangerous substances and answers to the following questions:
- who emits potentially harmul chemical substances;
- how much of such substances are emitted and how long.
According to the Minister, 2.5 million tons of pollutants were registered in Kazakhstan.
