AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law on ratification of the protocol on amendments to the agreement between the governments of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on border posts dated December 25, 2003, Akorda reports.
The protocol envisages switchover of the status of Sartobe and Aukhatty checkpoints from "two-lane" to "international multi-lane" and the change of the name of Novovoskresenovka checkpoint to Sypatai Batyr. This will allow to ease the load on vehicular checkpoints Karasu and Kordai and improve the further development of trade and economic relations between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, the press service says.
At a moment, the two countries have 11 vehicular checkpoints. Out of them, 5 are international multi-lane and 6 two-lane. In 2010, due to a low intensity, 4 of them were closed.
