Parliament needs opposition – Kazakh President

AKIPRESS.COM - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the meeting of the National Council of Public Trust today proposed to assign the rights of political minorities in the Parliament, Tengrinews.kz reports. "We need an institute of parliament opposition. There are active citizens, who express their opinion. We should take into consideration their views and a public opinion. Int this regard, we should legally assign the issues of political minorities in the Parliament," Tokayev noted.
The head of state said the alternativeness of the legislative power should be developed, he said.
The President outlined the problems while creation of political parties in the country. To register a political party, at least 40,000 members of the party are needed.
"Taking into account the public opinion, we should change it. Our society should now switch over to a new quality period of a party building. Therefore, I want to reduce the number of members while registration of parties up to 20,000. We should gradually introduce amendments to the laws on parties and elections," Tokayev said.
