AKIPRESS.COM - According to preliminary results of parliament elections in Uzbekistan, 13,355,911 out of 18,797,810 eligible voters took part in the elections, said Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov.
Additionally, 89,000 citizens of Uzbekistan voted abroad.
Voter turnout was 71.1%, which means the parliamentary elections in Uzbekistan were valid.
Voting in some parts of Europe and USA is continuing.
The elections were held in accordance with national legislation and the democratic principles of openness and transparency, Abdusalomov said.
825 international observers from 10 international organizations and about 50 countries, 70,000 observers from political parties, as well as 1,155 local and foreign journalists participated in the electoral process.
Abdusalomov said the vote counting is under way. The preliminary results of the vote will be announced at 14:00 Tashkent time on December 23.
