AKIPRESS.COM - About 20 people arrested for 10-15 days amid the police crackdown in Almaty during the Independence Day are going on hunger strike for the 3rd day, local media reported. They claim the decision of courts is unfair.
According to the detained activists Askhat Jeksebayev and Kanat Jakupov, the protesters are demanding to immediately release all those arrested.
The attorney of the activists say that December 23 was the third day of hunger strike.
Jakupov said that the court and prosecutor ignored the requests of those convicted to provide transparency of court hearings with video reporting.
The activists said the hunger strike will continue until they are not freed.
Spokesman of the police department of Almaty Yevgeny Lysenko told Azattyk that they do not confirm the information on hunger strike.
Dozens of people were detained by law enforcement officers in Almaty and Nur-Sultan on December 16 during dispersal of the protesters.
