AKIPRESS.COM - The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe has launched a project to stabilise Tajikistan's southern border with Afghanistan, spokeswoman for the office Munira Shoinbekova told RIA Novosti. The €3.3m project will be implemented in 18 months, she said. The project aims to improve the professional capacity of Tajik and Afghan border services to more effectively counter illegal activities in border areas, Shoinbekova said.
The project will also help build the capacitiesof the emergency situation committee to respond to natural disasters in border regions, she added.
The border services will receive practical training on operational planning and support for field operations. The project will strengthen the skills of border officials from both countries to respond to security incidents and effectively protect the border. In addition, the Tajik Border Troops' training centers in Khalkaer and Langar (in the south) will be partially renovated and the emergency situation committee's training center in Karatag will be overhauled and put into operation, said the spokesperson.
