AKIPRESS.COM - Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary General Vladimir Norov has urged not to allow further escalation of the tension in the Middle East at the meeting with Ambassador of Iran to China Mohammad Keshavarz Zade. The meeting was held at the request of the Iranian side, the SCO Secretariat said.
The Ambassador of Iran briefed the SCO Secretary General about the latest developments in the Middle East, handed the copy of the letter of the Envoy of Iran to UN addressed to the UN Secretary General.
"Iran is a SCO observer country. Peaceful co-existence, stability and security in the Middle East are very important for the SCO. The current situation will exacerbate tension in the region and can lead to serious negative implications for the global security system," the SCO Secretary General said.
"We call all sides for restraint and search of the best diplomatic solution of the conflict, not to allow further escalation of the tension in the Middle East," Norov emphasized.
SCO stands against any use of force in international relations. Respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity is the fundamental principle in the UN charter, he went on saying.
"The SCO underlines importance of strict adherence to goals and principles of the UN Charter, solution of all issues through consultations, non-intervention into internal affairs, non-use of military force or threat of force, respect of other universally accepted international law norms aimed at sustaining peace and security," Vladimir Norov stressed.
