AKIPRESS.COM - Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov today met newly appointed UNFPA Representative Yu Yu.
The UNFPA Representative handed in the letter to Minister Kamilov from UN Under-Secretary General and UNFPA Executive Director on his appointment.
The sides reaffirmed commitment to deepening of cooperation and enhancement of its effectiveness in implementation of joint projects aimed at sustainable development.
The issues related to the population census planned for 2022 and possible assistance of UNFPA in the process were considered.
Mr. Yu Yu has more than 17 years of work experience in UNFPA and before his appointment as UNFPA Representative in Uzbekistan/Country Director in Tajikistan in August 29, 2019 he worked as UNFPA Deputy Representative in Zimbabwe (5 years) and Pakistan (4 years), Head of Office in UNFPA DPR Korea (5 years) and National Programme Officer in UNFPA China (3 years). He also worked for 3 years in the Ministry of Commerce of China prior to his joining UNFPA. Mr. Yu Yu holds MSc Degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of London and Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. He speaks Chinese and English.
