PM Abilgaziyev instructs to accelerate consideration of toughening punishment for domestic violence

AKIPRESS.COM - The country should develop the atmosphere of the categorical opposition of violence against women and children, said Prime Minister Muhamedkaliy Abilgaziyev on Jan 9. The violence cases against women have government's attention. 2020 was announced as a year of regional development, country digitalization and children's' support, so the government intends to facilitate the work on protection of rights and interests of women and children, the government's press service reports.
"Kyrgyzstan was shocked with news on violence cases in Batken and Naryn region, which caused the death of young women and mothers. All of them were domestic violence victims and their children are now orphans. Their mothers dies at the hands of husbands, who will now be heavy punished for the committed crime. The recent cases of domestic violence testify that this issue is acute in republic," he said.
Prime Minister admitted that women in Kyrgyzstan are quite often suffer humiliation and abused by family members.
Abilgaziyev instructed to activate the work on development of the national legislation, in particular in the improvement of mechanisms of provision protection for citizens from domestic violence, as well as to facilitate the activities of the working group on studying the issue on toughening punishment for domestic violence. The corresponding work should be held along with representatives of civic society and international organizations.
