AKIPRESS.COM - The border checkpoints between Turkmenistan and Iran were closed down on Jan 8,2020, Chronicles of Turkmenistan reports.
The border checkpoints of Bajgyran on the outskirts of Ashgabat, Etrek located near the same-name village and Artyk for three days in a row have been denying access through the border to people, including those who intended to travel to Iran to undergo a course of medical treatment as well as cargoes.
Small scale entrepreneurs who are engaged in importing groceries and merchandise from Iran, reported that border patrols failed to give a specific reason behind the closing of the border and inform when the checkpoints are scheduled to be re-opened.
One of the customs officers from the Bajgyran checkpoint assumed that this is related to the conflict between the US and Iran.
It has been reported earlier that Turkmenistan Airlines will suspend all the flights bound to the UAE with the route flying over Iran.
