Human rights activist comments on lawmaker statement on domestic violence

AKIPRESS.COM - Seeking guilty of domestic violence is a patriarchal and narrow-minded view, which is intolerable towards any family members, said human rights activist Nazgul Turdubekova on Jan 16. Three high-profile cases of domestic violence were recorded in Naryn, Batken and Issyk-Kul regions since year start.
According to her, the draft law on security and protection from domestic violence was adopted in 2017.
"The law was adopted by lawmakers. The responsibility of law enforcement agencies, local authorities and others towards domestic violence has increased since adoption of law. The criminal case is launched regardless who became the victims of domestic violence," she said.
The view and position of lawmaker Kamchybek Joldoshbayev is a withdrawal from responsibility.
On Jan 15, MP Joldoshbayev wondered on causes of domestic violence and suggested that either a man was drunken or his wife had wrong thoughts and cussed.
