MP prioritizes preventive measures in fight against domestic violence

AKIPRESS.COM - Emotions, feelings, love can't be controlled by laws, MP Zarylbek Rysaliev said at the meeting of the Rule of Law, Anti-Corruption Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, during consideration of the draft law on protection from domestic violence. Prevention is needed only in fight against domestic violence, he said.
"How can we prevent violence? With what law can we suppress feelings, love, jealousy in person? We have our own values. It is unreal to eradicate violence immediately," he said.
"Right, we can lessen it. However, police will be unable to cope with the problem alone. Other solutions are needed as well," the MP said.
The main cause of cruel treatment of women by husbands was alcohol abuse, Deputy Interior Minister Almazbek Orozaliev said when asked about causes of violence against women.
