Consul Bakyt Umetov is acting Consul General of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul

AKIPRESS.COM - Consul Bakyt Umetov is acting Consul General of Kyrgyzstan in Istanbul, said Foreign Minister Chingiz Aidarbekov in an interview with AKIpress on Jan 23.
"We are considering a candidate to this post from the Foreign Ministry with diplomatic experience, which Sopokov did not have," Aidarbekov said without naming candidates.
In November 2019, Erkin Sopokov was sacked as Kyrgyzstan's Consul General in Istanbul following the scandal with his car with diplomatic plates. His car was spotted near the scene of murder of Chinese businessman Aierken Saimaiti in Istanbul. Saimaiti was involved in the case of withdrawal of $700 millionm from Kyrgyzstan.
