Foreigners who arrived in Uzbekistan before 1995 to obtain citizenship: Mirziyoev

AKIPRESS.COM - This year, Uzbekistan plans to develop a draft law on citizenship for those who came to the country before 1995, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in his address to parliament. It's necessary to take another important step in ensuring human rights and improving citizenship legislation, he said.
"The time has come to take organizational and legal measures to address this problem of our compatriots, who have been living in the country for many years but have not received the status of citizens of Uzbekistan. In particular, those who arrived in the country before 1995 and have been living in the country since then should automatically become citizens of Uzbekistan. In this way the vital problem of almost 50 thousand compatriots will be solved," the President noted.
The Cabinet of Ministers has been instructed to consider this issue jointly with the parliament and submit the relevant bill by May 1 this year.
