AKIPRESS.COM - A new airport in Mongolia is scheduled to open on April 23 this year.
Minister of Roads Development and Transport of Mongolia B. Enkh-Amgalan received representatives of the New International Airport of Ulaanbaatar, which will manage the new airport in the Khushig valley, and instructed the company to complete the facility on time.
The new international airport will be jointly managed with Japan under the concessional agreement with Japanese side receiving 51% of the airport's profits and the Mongolian side 49%.
Japanese firms Mitsubishi and Chiyoda signed an agreement with the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority worth 50 billion yen ($492.4 million) to build a new international airport in Ulaanbaatar.
The airport will be able to accommodate up to 3 million passengers per year, and will have the capacity and land space for possible future expansion up to 12 million passengers per year.
The current Ulaanbaatar Genghis Khan Airport, the largest airport in Mongolia, serves about 0.9 million passengers per year.
