AKIPRESS.COM - MP Jirgalbek Turuskulov (Respublika-Ata Jurt) outlined the results of the trip to the United States, where possible lifting of U.S. visa restrictions for Kyrgyzstan was discussed.
The lawmaker underscored the restrictions affected U.S. diversity visa winners, citizens planning to re-unite with their family members in U.S. and migrant workers.
The United States is on the second place after Russia in size of worker remittances, the MP said.
"The main reason of U.S. visa restrictions is lack of biometric passports. Their introduction is planned since January 2021. It is necessary to make all possible efforts to sooner launch biometric passport and achieve lifting of these restrictions. For instance, the Republic of Chad managed to get the restrictions lifted for half a year," MP Turusbekov said.
More than 5,500 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have registered with the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan to the U.S. and Canada now.
