AKIPRESS.COM - Speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament Dastan Jumabekov asked Ambassador of Iran Saeid Kharrazi to help out Kyrgyz truck drivers stuck in Iran due to closed borders with Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan because of the coronavirus outbreak.
Jumabekov also confirmed readiness for expansion of Kyrgyz-Iranian trade and economic relations.
"Current trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Iran is $30 million, which does not reflect the whole potential," he said.
Kyrgyzstan is interested in attracting Iranian investments in the hydropower sector, exchanging knowledge in the construction of small and medium power plants.
Saeid Kharrazi said he is also interested in boosting bilateral cooperation with Kyrgyzstan.
76 trucks from Kyrgyzstan are stranded in Iran as since February 18 Turkmenistan officially closed the border for goods from Iran because of the coronavirus outbreak.
At least 237 people have died and 7,161 have been infected across Iran since mid-February.
