AKIPRESS.COM - The delegations of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the coordination service of the Border Troops Commanders Council participated in the 5th regional meeting of heads of border services of the CIS countries in Samarkand.
The situation on the outer borders of the CIS countries with Afghanistan and possible scenarios of its development in the nearest future were considered at the meeting. The heads of border services exchanged views on the situation in northern provinces of Afghanistan in particular.
A special attention was paid to grown drug production and attempts to smuggle drugs along the northern route that runs mainly through Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan (or Uzbekistan or Turkmenistan) to Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
The measures to counter penetration of persons affiliated with international terrorist and extremist organizations into the CIS region were formulated at the meeting.
The countries signed the protocol, which recommendations will be considered at the next meeting of the heads of border services of the CIS countries on April 16 in Yerevan.
