AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed the draft amendments to the law on physical culture and sports in the second reading on March 20.
The draft law was presented by Deputy Head of the State Agency for Sports and Physical Culture Kanat Arpachiev.
Amendments are designed to protect the rights of athletes to fair competition by preventing the use of prohibited substances in sport and reduce corruption risks in the activities of the body in the field of physical culture and sports.
According to Arpachiev, Kyrgyzstan has the World Anti-Doping Code commitments approved by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The World Anti-Doping Code was adopted in 2003, a documents used by sports organizations around the world.
The objectives of WADA are to protect the fundamental rights of athletes to participate in doping-free sport and promote health, fairness and equality for all athletes, deter and prevent doping use, he said.
The draft law proposes to add words "prevention of the use of prohibited substances and methods" into the article 1 of the law on physical culture and sports. It is also proposed to extend the powers of the government in the field of physical culture and sport and to add rules for development and approval of anti-doping rules in Kyrgyzstan and define the authorized state body responsible for controlling anti-doping activities in sport.
