AKIPRESS.COM - On March 26, 2020, Cabinet of Ministers held a regular videoconference, where the topical issues of state were discussed, the Foreign Ministry reports.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov noted that one of the key vectors of the foreign policy of neutral Turkmenistan is cooperation with the UN and other authoritative organizations, including in the environmental field and in the sphere of ecology.
Turkmenistan is currently a member of 20 multilateral international documents in the environmental area.
The Foreign Minister voiced a proposal on joining our country to a number of multilateral documents, including the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (the Bonn Convention), which entered into force in 1983 and the Agreement on the Protection of Afro-Eurasian Migratory Wet birds, adopted under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), adopted in 1999, and the 2016 Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
The President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that environmental protection and ecological safety issues are directly related to the achievement of the global Sustainable Development Goals. Putting environmental diplomacy as one of the priority vectors of its foreign policy, neutral Turkmenistan makes a significant contribution to strengthening international cooperation in the sphere of nature protection.
President of Turkmenistan approved the proposal to join our country to the above-mentioned multilateral documents, instructing the Deputy Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister to continue work in this direction on a systematic basis.
