AKIPRESS.COM - The frosts damaged potato, tomato, cucumbers, bell pepper, fruit trees, Chingiz Jarkynov, farmer from Kadamjai district, told Turmush.
Kadamjai starts spring field works earlier than other parts of Kyrgyzstan, the sown crops were 15-20 cm above the soil when the frosts came, the farmer said.
"All crops are frozen now and died. Many farmers may remain without harvest this year. Many peach, apricot and cherry trees were frozen too. Tomato, bell pepper and cucumbers are frozen as well. In ten days only it will be clear how many fruit trees were frozen. Even though tomatoes and potatoes can be sown the second time, but this will lead to new costs for farmers," Jarkynov said.

The size of damage is unknown now. The district has more than 6,000 ha with fruit trees growing. The fruit trees were damaged on about 434 ha. Potato, tomatoes, bell peppers are frozen on 300 ha areas. Restoration works are carried out now where it is possible, he said.
