AKIPRESS.COM - In response to requests from several region administrations and the evolving needs of the committed medical professionals, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to several hospitals and medical clinics in Kyrgyzstan. Receiving the medical gear, including a large consignment of coveralls, respirator masks, goggles, medical gloves and other protective supplies, on behalf of the health care professionals, on April 20, Mr Emilbek Abdraimov, Governor of Naryn Oblast observed, "This is a much-needed support for which we, on behalf of doctors and nurses as well as people of Naryn Oblast, thank the Aga Khan Development Network - our long-term friend and development partner."
Earlier 500 sets of similar PPE were donated by the AKDN to medical facilities in Batken, Jalal-Abad and Osh regions. "This personal protection equipment is essential for our doctors who are already using these supplies and we highly appreciate this assistance," noted Mr Talantbek Arstankulov, Chief Doctor, Osh Inter-Oblast Hospital. A truck load of disinfectants for the sanitization of public areas was also sent in response to a request from the authorities in Jalal-Abad region.
Remarking on the assistance provided by AKDN agencies, Dr. Shamsh Kassim-Lakha, the AKDN Diplomatic Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic underlined, "We have decided to give the highest priority to protecting the valiant health professionals, many of whom have themselves been affected by COVID-19 in the line of duty. They are putting their lives on the line. I also want to compliment the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, at all levels, for its prompt and active response to contain the spread of the coronavirus."
This support was made possible with funding from various AKDN agencies operating in the Kyrgyz Republic, including the Aga Khan Foundation, the University of Central Asia, the Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank (KICB), the First MicroFinance Company and the Jubilee Kyrgyzstan Insurance Company.
