PM of Uzbekistan arrives at dam burst site, 11,600 people evacuated

AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov arrived in Kurgantepa village, Syrdarya region, where almost 11,600 people were evacuated after the burst of the Sardobe dam.
The water leaked from the sixth wall of the dam on May 1 and flooded Kurgantepa village. People from several settlements will be evacuated over flood risk.
Around 900 emergency workers and almost 200 special vehicles are working at the site. The dam contians some 922 million cbm of water.
The agricultural fields were affected mostly. Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Emergency Minister, head of the National Guard are on the ground.
Construciton of the Sardobe dam started in 2019 and was commissioned in 2017.
