AKIPRESS.COM - The damage caused by flooding in Turkestan region of Kazakhstan as a result of burst of the Sardoba dam in Syrdarya region of Uzbekistan is preliminarily estimated at more than 404 million tenge ($951,500), region governor Umirzak Shukeyev said at the government meeting, BaigeNews reported.
845 houses, 3 schools, 5 kindergartens, 4 medical facilities, one community center were flooded. The bridge in Jenis village, 54.7 km of roads and 7,639 ha of sown fields were flooded as well.
"We are still calculating the caused damage and will provide the update on the situation soon. The compensation for flooded houses will be provided like that in Arys. We should provide compensation to each family. 8 posts were set up and 303 police officers were mobilized to safeguard the properties in flooded areas and to prevent looting," Umirzak Shukeyev stated.
19 evacuation points were set up in the region, where 3,200 people were placed. The rest stay at their relatives. 120 medical workers were dispatched to the evacuation points in view of the ongoing quarantine over coronavirus infection.
Canals are dug up to remove the water from Maktaaral district.
"We visited Uzbekistan yesterday and discussed possible risks. We will dig more canals near Kogaly settlement, we reached such agreement yesterday. After stabilization of the situation, Uzbek colleagues will help us, they will arrive in the region with their equipment and vehicles and we in return should open border for them," the Turkestan region governor said.
The Sardobe dam burst in Syrdarya region on May 1. The heavy showers and windstorm were blamed for the accident.
