AKIPRESS.COM - The sentence erm for ex-Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Serik Akhmetov will be shortened, zakon.kz reported.
The probation authorities appealed to the Karaganda region court for criminal affairs seeking to add the period Serik Ahmetov was held in custody before the prison sentence has taken effect to the total period held in custody. The court sustained the motion and recounted the prison term.
Serik Akhmetov was held 3 months and 3 days in custody before the announcement of the verdict. This period was extended to 4 months and 19 days.
Akhmetov was sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption. His prison term was then shortened to 8 years. The Abai district court cut a part of the prison term on the basis of the amnesty law. Then Ahmetov has asked the court to replace unserved prison term of 4 years and 26 days with freedom restriction. The court sustained the motion and Ahmetov was released from prison from 21 September 2017 on the condition of freedom restriction. On December 18, his petition for early release on parole was denied.
