President Jeenbekov inaugurates Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev Park and monument

AKIPRESS.COM - President Sooronbai Jeenbekov, Bishkek mayor Aziz Surakmatov, Russian Ambassador Nikolai Udovichenko today attended the inauguration ceremony of the monument to Soviet Union Hero Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev in the Park named after the hero.
"Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev is one of our heroes, who sacrificed his life defending the Motherland from invaders. Our sacred duty is to keep memory about a great exploit of our fathers and grandfathers, like Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev, and pass it to the next generation. Today we live in a peaceful time. We owe this to our dear veterans, who are with us, and those heroes who did not return from the war," the President said.
The Victory Day is a great holiday which was achieved with enormous losses - around 27 million citizens of the Soviet Union died, the President added.
The Great Patriotic War affected each town, village and family in Kyrgyzstan. 365,000 people were concripted, one third of them did not return home. More than 150,000 Kyrgyzstanis were awarded with various orders and medals, he said.
Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev joined the Red Army rows in 1941 at the age of 19 years.
He closed the embrasure of the enemy bunker with his body on 6 August 1942 and with this self-sacrifice allowed capture of a strategic bridgehead for an assault operation by the 6th Army of the Voronezh Front. He was buried with military honors on the Lysaya Gora Mountain in Voronezh region.
The monument to Cholponbai Tuleberdiyev was unveiled in the Park named after him, which lies in the western part of Bishkek. The park occupies 11 ha.
Sooronbai Jeenbekov with Bishkek mayor Aziz Surakmatov took a stroll in the park. The mayor briefed the President about carried out reconstruction process.
