Hundreds of migrant workers from Uzbekistan mass at Russian-Kazakh border crossing point

AKIPRESS.COM - Hundreds of migrant workers from Uzbekistan gathered on the Russian-Kazakh border since May 11, centralasian.org reported. They ask the Governments of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to allow transit through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. However, Kazakh authorities refuse to open the borders until improvement of the epidemiological situation in the neighboring states.
The Uzbek migrant workers said they came to the Russian-Kazakh border hoping that Kazakhstan will open the border with Russia on May 11. This has not happened and near 400-500 people remain at the Mashatakovo border crossing point on the Russian-Kazakh border.
Kazakhstan opened the border on May 7 for one-off transit corridor for more than 500 citizens of Kyrgyzstan stranded in Sol-Iletsk, Orenburg region of Russia. Kazakh authorities demanded that citizens are transported by special buses with medical workers.
