Uzbekistan repatriates $10 million belonging to Gulnara Karimova from abroad

AKIPRESS.COM - The assets in the amount of $10 million were returned from France to Uzbekistan on May 14 as a result of the efforts of the Uzbek Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor's Office in repatriation of illegally obtained property by the eldest daughter of first President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, Gulnara Karimova.
These funds were transferred to the budget of Uzbekistan and will be used when necessary, the Ministry of Justice said.
All talks and the efforts on repatriation of the assets are held on official level in line with the legislation of Uzbekistan and international law, the Ministry of Justice said.
The General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Justice, other line agencies are cooperating with competent authorities of Switzerland, United States, France, Russia and other countries in repatriation of assets obtained by Gulnara Karimova illegally that are valued at more than $1.3 billion.
These assets were frozen by the authorized agencies in foreign states.
The allegations that Gulnara Karimova and other physical persons may return property or money as reported by some media outlets do not correspond to reality, the Ministry of Justice stressed.
