AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan will partaken in the technical audit of the Sardoba water reservoir in Uzbekistan, Tengrinews.kz reported.
Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliev held a meeting with Minister of Water Resources of Uzbekistan Shavkat Hamraev in Shymkent.
Minister Mirzagaliev said the dam burst caused a big economic damage for the population living in the flooded areas of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
"During the talks were reached the agreement that the technical audit of the Sardoba water reservoir will be conducted with involvement of international and Kazakh experts. The future of this reservoir will be decided depending upon the findings of the audit," Minister Mirzagaliev said.
The sides also agreed to develop and sign the intergovernmental agreement on management, use and protection of shared water resources. The roadmap for water resources cooperation will be formulated.
As a result of the partial collapse of the dam of the Sardoba water reservoir on May 1, some 276 sq km were flooded, 76 were flooded in Kazakhstan. 10 settlements were flooded in Maktaaral district of Turkestan region of Kazakhstan. More than 30,000 people were displaced.
