AKIPRESS.COM - Around 50 new mothers staying at the observation point at the maternity hospital in Osh today protested against the conditions in the observation and demanded their discharge, Turmush reported. The women said they tested negative for COVID-19 twice.
They also complained they have no place to bathe their newborns.
Osh mayor's press secretary Azamat Absattarov said the vice mayor and the Health Ministry's coordinator are holding talks with the new mothers.
"The maternity hospital was quarantined after a medical worker of the hospital tested positive for Covid-19 on May 13. Their demands will be met, but they may be discharged from hospital only on the basis of the decision of the operative team for coronavirus fight," the press secretary said.
Osh social development department chief Saltanat Amanova said all works at the maternity hospital are carried out in line with the approved protocols.
"15 medical workers, 14 new mothers and newborns tested positive for coronavirus. All contacts were tested earlier. 422 people stay at the observation point. 64 were isolated. Relatives of the new mothers do not understand the situation and demand their discharge. If we allow these women to leave the point, the infection will spread further. All new mothers were taken to the observation point as recommended by epidemiologists. The maternity hospital is closed," Saltanat Amanova said.
The situation is under control, Osh police department said.
