Central Asian countries, EU hold virtual talks on impact of COVID-19

AKIPRESS.COM - The Central Asia-European Union talks were held in a form of a videoconference on May 28, the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said.
The videoconference was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Margulan Baimuhan, Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Azizbek Madmarov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan Muzaffar Huseinzoda, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Harun Chahansuri, and Secretary General of the European External Action Service Helga Maria Schmid.
The diplomats exchanged views on prospects of regional cooperation and organization of joint events, including the agenda and timing of High-Level Central Asia-EU Dialogue in Tashkent.
A particular attention was paid to cooperation between the Central Asian countries, Afghanistan and the EU to address the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.
"The EU stands in solidarity with our partners to address impact of COVID-19. We need to continue to work together on regional and global challenges, and peace in Afghanistan," Maria Schmid said.
