Kyrgyz-Uzbek border conflict: First Deputy Prime of Kyrgyzstan arrives in Batken for talks with Uzbek Prime Minister

AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyz First Deputy Prime Minister Kubatbek Boronov has arrived in Kadamjai district, Batken region on June 1, the Kyrgyz government's press office said.
Boronov is set to meet with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to discuss the conflict that occurred on May 31 between residents of border villages of the two countries. Boronov will also hold an operative meeting with law enforcement agencies and local authorities, too.
The situation on the border was described stable, but tense. Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has boosted security measures. The authorities are conducting awareness raising works among local residents.
On May 31, following negotiations between the local authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on the conflict between the residents of the village of Chechme in Kadamjai district of Batken region and the village of Chashma in Sokh district of Uzbekistan, it was decided to conduct joint patrolling of the territory by the law enforcement agencies of the two countries, said the Kyrgyz government.
At least 15 people were reported injured as a result of the rock-throwing between citizens of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. They were admitted to a hospital in Aidarken, Batken region, said the Kyrgyz Health Ministry on May 31.
On June 1, the negotiations will continue.
