AKIPRESS.COM - On 29 May, 2020 a demonstration against the government of Turkmenistan was held in front of the UN headquarters in New York. Seven people with flags and protest posters marched along the UN building and recorded a video address to share the problems of Turkmenistan nationals and requested the government and President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov step down, Chronicles of Turkmenistanreports. The rally participants were discontent with the fact that those affected by the hurricane which hit Lebap velayat a month ago are provided with no support. They also talked about rampant corruption, wide-spread violations of human rights, failure of the authorities to fulfill the obligations they had undertaken and called on international organizations to pay attention to the problems of Turkmenistan.
"680 million dollars were allocated for the International Association of Akhal Teke Horse Breeding whereas residents of Lebap have been left without financial aid after the hurricane," said one of the protesters.
The protest signs say "Dictator", "We don't need a DJ, a singer, a car racer or a writer, we need a President,", "We are calling on the UN to interfere and urge the Turkmen authorities to stop human rights violations".
Previously, the protests requesting the President's resignation were held in Istanbul on 15 and 29 May and on 11 and 20 May, 2020 - in Northern Cyprus.
