AKIPRESS.COM - Hundreds of Tajik citizens are stranded in Turkestan region of Kazakhstan on the border with Uzbekistan. Tajik citizens have been living in car park near the border of Uzbekistan for more than 2 months, Astana TV channel reported.
They cannot return home due to quarantine. Most of them have run out of money, they don't have access to sanitation facilities, the food is cooked in unhygienic conditions, children and pregnant women have to sleep outside. Uzbek customs officers do not allow even to cross the border with body of the deceased.
"...Most people don't have money, they have been here for 70 days. In March the borders were closed, and we got stuck. Even the body of the migrant worker who died in Russia was allowed to be transported to another country, it was just supposed to rot here," says Tajik citizen Umar Khamidov.
Tajik citizens buried the body in Jetisai (Kazakhstan), claims Umar. He added that local volunteers bring food and clothes. But it is not enough, and when Tajik citizens asked assistance from the government, the workers of the Embassy who arrived at scene could not help.
Tajik Ambassador in Kazakhstan Hairullo Ibodzoda says that soon all Tajik citizens will be transported from Jibek Joly to Khujand, as the Tajik government officials came to agreement with Kazakh authorities and are discussing the situation with Tajik Embassy in Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador emphasized that people gather on the border crossing points since the beginning of the quarantine, because it is difficult to gain permission to cross the border in state of emergency.
According to official reports, the Embassy of Tajikistan aided return of around 2,000 citizens after the borders were closed.
