AKIPRESS.COM - The Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan denied the reports that Kyrgyzstan was allegedly handing over the territory of the Kant airbase to Russia in exchange for repair of its runway.
The Embassy called the reports untrue and a misleading attempt.
"According to the protocol between Russia and the Kyrgyz Republic on making amendments and additions to the agreement on the status and conditions of stay of the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan of September 20, 2012 signed in March 2019, in the case Russia reconstructs the runway at the Kant airfield, the ownership of the inseparable improvements it made belongs to the Russian side. After termination of this agreement, these improvements are transferred to the Kyrgyz side," said the Embassy.
This week the parliament of Kyrgyzstan will consider draft changes to the agreement on the Russian air base in Kant.
