AKIPRESS.COM - MP Kanybek Imanaliyev initiated a bill on the development of medical tourism in Issyk-Kul proposing a medical tourism zone creation in Issyk-Kul.
There are several types of tourism such as winter tourism, historical tourism, shopping, ecological tourism, and medical tourism.
"Medical tourism accounts for 14% of global tourism GDP. Our citizens go to South Korea, Turkey or Israel to get medical treatment. Central Asia is home to 70 million people and Issyk-Kul is the best spot for medical tourism," he said.
MP believes that Issyk-Kul must diversify away from beach tourism.
"390 out of 396 existing resorts are not open all year round. Only 6 are open all year round," he said.
The MP suggested giving support to resorts to develop in medical field. "Our citizens won't have to travel abroad; doctors would work in Issyk-Kul. This direction will be developed on the basis of leasing," he added.
