AKIPRESS.COM - A 7-km long line of cargo trucks has piled up at the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border near the Ak-Tilek checkpoint as of today. Tazabek correspondent went to the spot to interview some drivers and learn about the situation.
A Kazakh national, truck driver Andrei said he visits Kyrgyzstan almost every week to deliver milk packaging. "Each time it's the same situation, we waste 2-3 days. They tell it happens because of the coronavirus, but the tax inspectorate takes too long time from us. It took 1.5 hours for me. There's a traffic jam of 7 km long. I think I'm going to stay here for 3-4 days," he assumed.
The driver claims the situation was difficult on the border even before the coronavirus.
Russian national Sergei Komilkov, who delivered air conditioners to Kyrgyzstan, said he is likely to spend up to 4 days in line. "The situation is inadequate. People can neither go to the toilet nor eat. There are no conditions. The volunteers are delivering food. It's my first time in Kyrgyzstan and I'm shocked," he said.
A Kyrgyz cargo carrier Iskender, who carries onions from the Leilek district to Irkutsk, says it took 2 days to get here, and it will take 3 days to cross the border, and 4 days to get to final destination. He blamed Kazakhstani side for delays with taking X-ray and checking documents.
Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Erkin Asrandiyev called the situation on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border critical on June 4.
