AKIPRESS.COM - Domestic violence has worsened in Kyrgyzstan since outbreak of COVID-19, according to the findings of the survey released by UN Women today.
2,319 domestic violence reports to police were registered from January to March 2020, this is for 65% more than in the same period of the previous year. Women aged between 21 to 50 years make 95% of domestic violence victims.
The registered 2,319 cases of domestic violence included 142 cases of physical abuse (+49.5%), 799 cases of psychological violence (+109.2%), 5 cases of sexual assault (2 cases in 2019), 90 cases of negligence (+34.3%).
2,319 protection orders were issued. 214 criminal probes were launched (1,347 protection orders were issued and 214 criminal probes were launched in 2019).
The survey was conducted with support of UN Women, Swiss government, EU-UN Spotlight Initiative, UN Population Fund.
