1,700 medical professionals in Tajikistan contract COVID-19

AKIPRESS.COM - 1,701 medical professionals contracted COVID-19 since start of pandemic in Tajikistan.
This is a common situation in the world, since medical professionals are in the risk group, said Davron Muhamadiev, representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Socieities, Sputnik Tajikistan reported.
The situaiton may vary between the countries, but in average from 15% to 26% of COVID-19 cases are registered among health workers, he said.
"Many countries, Tajikistan among them, loosen quarantine restrictions, but this does not mean the pandemic ended. The situation remains worrisome. According to European assessment, the infection and its spread is moving from the West to the East. Almost 2 months ago COVID-19 was mainly spreading in Western Europe, but now the infection has reached Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia," he said.
Tajikistan has so far confirmed 4,834 COVID-19 cases.
To date, 3,062 patients recovered. 49 patients died.
