AKIPRESS.COM - Government of Kyrgyzstan said June 14 it took the high-profile case of domestic violence in Suzak district of Jalal-Abad region under its control.
The man seen on the video torturing a woman has been taken to the detention facility, police said earlier.
The incident occurred on June 8 in Suzak when the man, reportedly a husband of the victim, tied the woman's hands, forced her stand with tires with rocks hanged on her shoulders, and poured cold water on her while also slapping her in the face several times. The man is heard demanding other woman behind the camera to film everything.
Criminal probe into domestic battery and torture was launched.
After the video of the torture appeared online, the case sparked a wide public outrage calling for the government to step in and make significant changes in protection of the rights of women in Kyrgyzstan.
