AKIPRESS.COM - 5 types of potential COVID-19 vaccines are being developed in Kazakhstan. WHO has already included one of them in their list. Human clinical trial of coronavirus vaccines will start in September, Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aymagambetov stated during government meeting on Friday.
"5 vaccines against coronavirus infection are being developed now on three platforms. The first one is inactivate vaccine, which neutralizes the virus with chemical substances. WHO checked the development protocols of inactivate vaccine candidate and included it in their list on May 15," Aymagambetov said.
Recombinant subunit vaccine and recombinant vector vaccine are also being developed in Kazakhstan. Inactivate vaccine candidate successfully passed non-clinical tests.
"Non-clinical tests of inactivate vaccine started on May 15. The safety and immunological potency was tested on linear mice. Toxicity and allergic specialties of candidate vaccine were checked on June 10 and June 23. In June and July, acute toxicity is tested on mice and rats and immunological potency on ferrets and Golden Syrian hamsters. In July and August, the tests will be made on primates and in September we will start human clinical trials," the Minister said.
