AKIPRESS.COM - Former Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan Indira Joldubaeva was found guilty of corruption and fined 5 million soms by the judge of the Pervomay district court on June 23. Joldubaeva was also stripped of her class ranks and titles for corruption within the case of illegal release of crime boss Aziz Batukayev from prison. In 2013, she worked as head of the judicial reform department of the President's Office. Public prosecutors asked the court to find her guilty of corruption and to sentence her to 15 years in prison.
Earlier, former President Almazbek Atambayev, one of the defendants in the case, was sentenced to 11.2 years in prison for corruption.
Other defendant Kalybek Kachkynaliyev, former advisor to the Chairman of the State Penitentiary Service, was sentenced to 2 years in prison. The sentence was considered as served and he was released from custody in the courtroom.
77-year-old doctor Abdukhalim Raimjanov was found guilty of involvement in faking the diagnosis of Batukayev, but no punishment was assigned against him due to expiration of the statute of limitations.
On August 3, 2006, Aziz Batukayev was sentenced to 16.8 years in prison with confiscation of property. He was accused of complicity in the murder of MP Tynychbek Akmatbaev, the head of the Central Penal Correction Department Ikmatulla Polotov and two members of Parliament in October 2005 during the riots in a penal colony in the village of Moldovanovka.
Batukayev was serving his sentence in Naryn prison. In 2013, he was released on medical grounds allegedly having a cancer. On the day he was released, he fled Kyrgyzstan on a private plane. Later authorities found the diagnosis was fake. Batukayev served half of his sentence and had 8 more years to serve.
