AKIPRESS.COM - The Pervomay district court of Bishkek sentenced former President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev to 11.2 years in prison for corruption.
Judge Emilbek Kaipov found him guilty of corruption, sentenced him to 11 years and 2 months in prison, confiscation of property and deprivation of state awards.
The public prosecutor asked to sentence Atambayev to 15 years in prison, confiscation of property, and deprivation of state ranks and awards for organizing corruption charges within the case of illegal release of crime boss Aziz Batukayev from prison in 2013 over fake leukemia diagnosis.
Batukayev partially served his term in Naryn prison until he was freed in 2013. Soon after his release, Batukayev fled the country and was declared internationally wanted. Batukayev had 8.3 years of prison term yet to be served.
