AKIPRESS.COM - Domestic violence grew by 20% during quarantine in Kazakhstan, Minister of Information and Social Development Aida Balaeva said, zakon.kz reported.
"This world problem becomes more and more relevant with every year in our society as well. Since outbreak of the pandemic and introduction of lockdown, the curve of the domestic violence statistics has leaped 20% up. Of course, we are concerned about such situation, since domestic violence sparks public outcry," Aida Balaeva told a round table on domestic violence problem.
Since start of the pandemic, almost 37,000 protection orders and over 5,000 particular demands for abusers were issued, she said.
Legal measures will not be enough. The systemic social work and consolidated efforts of NGOs, experts, professional psychologists, groups of support are needed. There are many groups in the country that provide support to domestic violence victims and offer real suggestions on improvement of the situation, she added.
