Turkmenistan, EBRD exchange views on private sector support

AKIPRESS.COM - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the Head of the Representative Office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Ashgabat Fatih Turkmenoglu on Tuesday, Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a press release. The meeting participants noted with satisfaction the development of long-term and effective cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EBRD in all areas of mutually beneficial cooperation. The sides exchanged views regarding finished and ongoing projects with the participation of the EBRD in the fields of energy and transport, private sector support and in many other areas.
The participants discussed issues of further development of cooperation in priority areas of bilateral cooperation, including strengthening the material and technical base to support small and medium-sized businesses and conducting business consultations for the private sector of Turkmenistan.
The parties also emphasized the importance of a constructive partnership within the framework of the EBRD's Turkmenistan Country Strategy for the period 2019-2024.
The EBRD has invested €295 million in Turkmenistan through 75 projects since it began operations in the country. The Bank has also provided advisory support to more than 200 small and medium-sized enterprises across Turkmenistan.
Founded in 1991, the EBRD is headquartered in London and is owned by 69 countries and two EU institutions. The international financial institution operates in more than 30 countries in Europe and Central Asia.
